What's the Peek loop?
It's the four-step game at the heart of Butterfly. Peek at a profile. Someone peeks back — guess who. The app picks one of you to say hi. Reply in 15 seconds or the moment vanishes. Real conversations, no swiping.
Is my school on Butterfly?
If your school issues .edu emails, you can sign up. Butterfly is fully live at USC and UCLA today. At every other school, you can create a profile and start the Peek loop — you'll see classmates as they join, and we'll surface the first few students in your major so the loop has someone to play with from day one.
How do you verify I'm actually a student?
Sign up with your .edu address. We send a one-time link to confirm. Accounts without a valid school email never get past verification.
Can people see when I peek at them?
Not directly. After a peek, the other person sees that someone viewed them and gets three faces to guess from. If they guess right, you both get a Say Hi prompt. If they don't, you stay invisible.
Is it weird if I peek at someone I don't know?
That's literally the point. Peek doesn't notify them, doesn't reveal you by name, and only turns into a hi if they guess right. It's the lowest-pressure way to signal interest on campus.
What if nobody peeks at me?
You can peek first. The loop starts the moment you open a profile, whether or not someone's peeked at you. Activity ramps up as more students at your school join.
Can I undo a peek?
Peeks are silent until the other person opens their Guess Who card, so there's nothing public to undo. If you want to clear your peek history, head to Settings → Activity → Clear.
Is Butterfly an app for dating?
Butterfly is a place to find your people — friends, study partners, or your next best friend. Some students do meet someone special. There's an opt-in status (Single, Taken, etc.) on profiles, but the app is built around playful peeks between classmates, not swiping. If dating's not your thing, leave the status off and the app works the same.
Is there an Android app?
iOS only right now. We're focused on getting the Peek loop right at every campus we launch before splitting effort across platforms.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
You can delete from Settings → Account → Delete. We wipe everything tied to you within 30 days — profile, peeks, chats, the lot. Messages you sent in group chats stay visible to people who saw them at the time, like any group chat.
